My daddy bought me a sewing machine as a gift when i was attending fashion school back in '11, i was overjoyed. I love it! its perfect. its a Singer brand and has great features that are easy to use.
Well, my work space is small, yup, what you see in the pictures is pretty much it. on this space, its where i do my pattern drafting and ironing, but it doesn't derail me though, it still is efficient and i am used to it, the phrase "beggers are not choosers" is coming to my mind at this point. Hopefully when i get a bigger place to stay i can reserve a huge space for my sewing adventures, coz really a small space doesn't do much for my creative juices.I do my pattern drafting from scratch, i learnt how to draft patterns at school, and it has been really helpful. i can pretty much draft any kind of garment that i design. That knowledge/skill comes in handy coz i don't like the "ripping off other garments to make a pattern for another garment method".. or buying commercially made ready made patterns(which are not even available here in Kenya, not that i know or have ever heard of.) and which i suppose would often have errors.
Personally i think that learning how to draft basic patterns is a must for any budding fashion designers and seamstresses. Its best if you join a sewing class locally or just learn online, how to draft the basic patterns especially the bodice block. the possibilities with this knowledge are endless and it puts you ahead of those who just buy commercial patterns or use old garments to create new ones and have no knowledge whatsoever of how to create a basic block.
i haven't been sewing as much as i am supposed to, i would blame that on this small work space, that again does nothing for my creativity, but i'll just blame it on myself :/ hopefully that's going to change soon. i am reviving my love for garment making.
This was back in 2011 when i attended fashion classes, lol :-D
